Galway Greens Beach Clean-up, Silver Strand

29 April 2008 in Local news, clean-ups, galway greens

The Galway Greens recently organised a beach cleanup at the Silver Strand. There was a great turn out of volunteers, at one point there were around 30 people helping out.

It’s obvious from the beach cleanup that Silver Strand is being used as a dump by some people. It’s incredibly sad to think that some people have a complete lack of respect for beach users. The beach is hugely popular in warm weather but some people deem it acceptable to dump everything from computers to sanitary waste. It’s not just a pollution issue, littering amenity areas endangers other users.

On the plus side, I found 20 quid which subsidised a few soups and chowders in Donnellys in Barna after! More photos below the fold.

Some of the volunteers on the day!

404 Error: Dumping computer on beach is stupid.

Kieran insists he can hear the sea.

Getting there.

Not a bad day’s work.
