O Brolchain calls on Galway City Council to start phasing out low efficiency light-bulbs immediately

Galway Green Party Councillor, Niall O Brolchain, today called on Galway City Council to put in place a programme to phase out all low energy efficiency light-bulbs and replace them with high energy efficiency ones in all properties that we manage ahead of the deadline of 2009.

“Galway is to become the first Irish City to win the European Energy Award, an initiative I pushed last year as Mayor of Galway City”, stated Cllr O Brolchain.

“We have made great progress on the energy front in recent years and I believe it is important that we continue to forge ahead. As such, I have put a motion before Galway City Council aimed at getting us to be the first City in Ireland to phase out low-energy efficiency light-bulbs”, said Cllr O Brolchain.

“Doing things on a phased basis is always the best approach. This measure will save money for the council as well as reduce carbon emissions”, said the Green Party Councillor.

“I would also encourage local businesses and householders to follow suit. Anyone who is still using low efficiency light-bulbs is just throwing money away and harming our environment”, concluded Cllr O Brolchain.
